For Christmas Eve this year, we started out by going to Mass just after supper. We came home and made the cookies for Santa and peeled the carrots for the Reindeer, we actually forgot the milk this year, oops, Santa must have been thirsty when he hit our house!
Once the kids are in bed, Mommy-AKA-Santa usually heads down to the basement to start digging all of the various gifts out of their hiding spots to start the wrapping. I'm usually done either really late or very early in the morning around midnightish. Well this year...we got the girls off to bed and went through the whole "You better Watch Out" routine so they'd hurry up and get to sleep, then I made my way downstairs. Only this year, I heard movement upstairs so I decided I better wait a little bit before digging out everything and getting caught.
So, I flicked on the tv and put my feet up on the couch and thought I'll just rest for about a half an hour since I was pooped and I had to make sure the endless in and out of bed routine had ceased for the night. Well...let's just say my little rest turned into a long rest! I woke up at god knows what time and in a panic ran to the computer to check the time and it was 2:38 in the morning! I had literally fallen asleep!
I majorly panicked and started to rush as quietly as possible (not an easy task) to get everything out and wrapped as fast as I could. Some of the gifts went without bows this year, no time! At around 4:40, Andy woke up and saw me creeping up the stairs with some gifts in tow and when I told him I had fallen asleep, he panicked and thought I had just woken up! When I told him, I only had the gifts from Santa left to do, I then asked him to help me fast and the response was, "you fell asleep on your watch, not me!" Can you tell we were in the army! Anyhoo, so I asked him to keep watch upstairs and be quiet so the girls wouldn't wake up. When he asked what if they do, I told him, we would just have to send them back to bed and tell them Santa didn't come yet, after all it was still dark outside!
Everything aside, I finished by 5:40 and we woke the girls up just after 6:00, talk about cutting it close! I will make sure that will never happen again! So the girls were happy with all of the gifts, Caitlin got her Nintendo DS from Santa just like she wanted (this being the first video game to come into the house) and Madison got her Furreal Squirrel she had asked for, plus all the other stuff from Mommy and Daddy.
Once all the gifts were opened and breakfast was done, I prepared my huge 20 pound bird for the oven and spent the rest of the day in the kitchen preparing stuff for dinner with my parents and Oma.
